NOTE: The 0° to 40°C range applies to the ambient air temperature at the air intake vents on
the nonport side of the Director. The temperature inside the chassis can be up to 75°C during
operation. If the internal temperature range exceeds the operating ranges of the components, the
LEDs, error messages, and Fabric Watch alerts will indicate a problem. Use the tempShow
command or Fabric Watch commands to view temperature status.
Fibre Channel port specifications
The FC ports in the Director support full-duplex link speeds at 4, 8, 10 or 16 Gb/s inbound and
outbound, automatically negotiating to the highest common speed of all devices connected to the
port.
The ports are compatible with optical SWL (approximately 850 nm), optical LWL (approximately
1,310 nm), and ELWL (approximately 1,550 nm) laser transmitter SFPs and SFP+s. The ports in
the FC8-64 blade only support mSFPs which are only available in SWL version. The strength of
the signal is determined by the type of transceiver in use.
QSFP ports are fixed-speed 16 Gb/s ports designed for use with specialized quad (4x16)
connections and cables. They support SWL only.
The ports are universal and self-configuring, capable of becoming D_Ports, E_Ports, EX_Ports,
F_Ports, FL_Ports, or M_Ports depending on the blade type. For more information, see Table 23 (page

Table 30 (page 111) provides the data transmission ranges for transceivers, port speeds, and cable
types.
NOTE: There is no LWL or ELWL version of either the mSFP or QSFP transceiver.
