2. Select the switch on the View panel, then right-click and select Resolve fabric membership to
remove the switch from the fabric.
3. Physically connect the new switch to the fabric and power it on.
Wait until Fabric Manager discovers the switch. (This might take a few minutes.) A plus symbol
on the switch in the Scope panel displays. In the View panel, select the fabric and right-click.
The tool tip for the newly joined switch indicates when it joined the fabric, the name of the
fabric it came from (if applicable), and which fabrics still have references to the switch (if
applicable).
Until you accept the switch into the new fabric, the status color remains orange in the View
panel.
4. Select Resolve fabric membership to add the new switch.
The switch is now removed from the former fabrics’ Fabric view and is officially accepted into
this fabric. The status color of the switch in the View panel is updated as applicable.
Replacing a seed switch in the fabric
1. Change the seed switch to a different switch in the fabric (see “Seed switch” on page 66).
2. Follow the instructions for “Switch replacement in the fabric” on page 174.
3. Change the seed switch to be the new switch.
Asset polling configuration
The Configure Asset Polling feature lets you set the length of time between state change polling for
certain SAN information. This includes Switch Asset Collection (switch, switch FICON attributes,
trunking, and GigE/IPSEC policy), Fabric Asset Collection (zone, active zone and topology), and
Device Asset Collection (name server). Other polling information is not affected.
You should base your settings on the size of the SAN. This lets you maximize the efficiency of the
polling feature, balancing amount of possible information with any possible performance impact.
When you open the Configure Asset Polling window, shown in Figure 115, you can see the size you
have set your SAN. This lets you decide the best polling period for your fabric.
Events that trigger asset polling are listed in Table 17.
