About Fault Management
Fabric Manager listens for SYSLOG messages through the SYSLOG service. Fault Management
supports SYSLOG messages from switches running Fabric OS v2.x and later, and from switches
running XPath.
Because switches only send the SYSLOG information through the standard port 514, if port 514 is
being used by another application, configure Fabric Manager to listen on a different port. Another
SYSLOG server must be configured to listen for switch SYSLOG messages and forward the
messages to the FM SYSLOG listening port.
The configuration can be changed later through the SYSLOG Configuration dialog box.
You can define how long events are stored by following the procedure described in “Notification
parameter configuration” on page 106.
SYSLOG destination registration
The SYSLOG registration policy is applicable only if the Fabric Manager SYSLOG service is set to
listen for messages on port 514. If you define any other port, you must register the SYSLOG
destination manually using the SYSLOG Registration dialog box.
