The goal of a press proof is to accurately reproduce the output that would normally be printed from a press. Presses usually use Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black inks to create their artwork. Some presses have the capability to add a pre-mixed ink also called Spot Color. One of the most well known spot color tables is the Pantone Spot Coated tables.
4. Create a new file in a RGB color mode, File menu > New...: • Width, Height and Resolution: Select the image size and resolution you need. • Color Mode: RGB Color.
5. Select your PANTONE® color and draw/paint your image: • Double-click on the Color Box of the Tools window to open the Color Picker: • Click the Color Libraries button and open the PANTONE® solid coated book, now you can select the desired Pantone color.
• Click OK. Now you can paint/draw. 6. Adobe Photoshop Print with Preview… settings, File menu > Print with Preview…: • Page Setup…: o Printer...: Select the printer (ex. HP Designjet Z2100 24in Photo) and click OK. o Paper Size: Select the paper size of the media loaded on the printer. o Orientation: Select the orientation of your image on the paper. o Click OK. • Set the Position and the Scaled Print Size you need. • Select the Color Management tab: o Print: Check Document.
• Click Print. 7. Driver Settings; Properties button: • Paper/Quality tab: o Paper Type: Select the media type that is loaded on the printer. o Print Quality: Select Standard Options and drag the slider to Quality.
• Color tab: o Select Color Options > Print in color. o Select Color Management > Application Managed Colors. NOTE Application manage colors was the recommended color management option in the step 6. Consequently, the Printer managed colors option will be grayed out, at this time. Photoshop version 9.0.1 doesn’t gray out the non selected options. Ensure the selected option is the correct one.
• Click OK twice. You should consider that each person has their own perception and their own subjective opinion about the result; this is because there are various factors that can influence our opinions, such as the type of photo (portrait, landscape…), the source color space, the media used, the environmental conditions, the subjective perception about your own photo, etc.... This means the printing suggestion may not completely match with your own personal opinion.
