When printing a proof, we need to convert the document to the device CMYK (a press color space or another printer color space). This operation is done by a RIP completely or in combination with an application and a RIP, in both cases, the RIP must support CMYK data. The HP Driver only gathers the document information in RGB, for this reason it is not recommended to use the HP Driver for proofing, it is strongly recommended to use a Software RIP. 1.
• Select OK. 4. Open the image, File menu > Open…: If the document has an embedded color profile that does not match the current working space, select Use the embedded profile. Otherwise, select Assign working space; in this case, if the displayed image does not look correct, try assigning it to other color spaces with Edit > Assign Profile (try sRGB, Adobe RGB, Color Match RGB and others) until you are satisfied.
• 5. Select OK. Select your printer profile in the Proof Setup dialog box, View Menu > Proof Setup > Custom…: • Device to Simulate: Select the profile of the output device you want to proof; press profile generally depends on the printer model and the media type. If you don’t have it on the list, you should copy it in the following folder: /Library/ColorSync/Profiles. • Rendering Intent: Perceptual (for RGB images) or Relative Colorimetric (for CMYK images). • Select Black Point Compensation.
6. • Select Save…. • Select OK. Adobe Photoshop Print with Preview… settings, File menu > Print with Preview…: • Page Setup: o Format for: Select the printer (ex. HP Designjet Z2100 24in Photo). o Paper Size: Select the paper size of the media loaded on the printer. o Orientation: Select the orientation of your image on the paper. o SelectOK. • Set the Position and the Scaled Print Size you need. • Select Show More Options. • Select the Color Management tab: o Print: Select Proof.
7. Choose driver Settings, SelectPrint. • Printer: Select the printer (ex. HP Designjet Z2100 24in Photo). • Select Paper Type/Quality in the drop-dawn menu: o Paper tab: • Paper Type: Select the media type that is loaded in the printer (same settings selected in Photoshop Printer Profile, always calibrated). • Quality Options: Standard and drag the slider to Quality.
• Color tab: o Select Print in Color. o Select Color Management > Application Managed Colors. NOTE Application manage colors was the recommended color management option in the step 5. Consequently, Printer managed colors option will be gray out, at this time. Photoshop version 9.0.1 doesn’t gray out the non selected options. Ensure the selected option is the correct one.
• SelectPrint. You should consider that each person has their own perception and their own subjective opinion about the result; this is because there are various factors that can influence our opinions, such as the type of photo (portrait, landscape…), the source color space, the media used, the environmental conditions, the subjective perception about your own photo, etc.... This means the printing suggestion may not completely match with your own personal opinion.
