1. First recommendations: • See the Media type functionality & features and choose the most appropriate media. • It is essential you have the media type correctly calibrated with the printer, consult the Calibrate my printer section. • In order to get a correct display, it’s also essential you have the monitor calibrated, consult the Profile my monitor section. 2.
• Select OK. 5. Open the image, File menu > Open…: • If the document has an embedded color profile that does not match the current working space, select Use the embedded profile (instead of the working space). Otherwise, select Assign working space; in this case, if the displayed image does not look correct, try assigning it to other color spaces with Edit > Assign Profile (try sRGB, Adobe RGB, ColorMatch RGB and others) until you are satisfied.
• Select OK. 5. If you place an image, you should embed the image in the document. If it has an embedded profile, it will be converted from the embedded color profile to the document color profile preserving the color appearance. If it doesn’t have an embedded color profile, Illustrator will assign the document color profile. • File menu > Place…: browse to the image and uncheck the Link check box. If you are asked How do you want to treat the data? Select Convert (preserve color appearance).
• Select OK. 6. Make sure you have configured the Document Setup appropriately for your document, File menu > Document Setup…. 7. Print your design, File menu > Print…. 8. Choose driver settings, click Setup… button: • Select Printer button and select your printer (ex. HP Designjet Z3100 44in Photo). • Select Preferences button: o Paper/Quality tab: • Paper Type: Select the media type that is loaded on the printer. • Print Quality: Select Standard Options and drag the slider to Quality.
o Color tab > Color Options: • Select Print in Grayscale. • Select Color Management > Application Managed Colors.
• Select OK and Print until the Illustrator print dialog box. 9. Adobe Illustrator Print… settings: • • General (left hand menu): o Media > Size: Defined by Driver. o Options: Select the scaling option you need. Color Management (left hand menu): o Print Method > Color Handling: Select Let Illustrator determine colors. o Print Method > Printer Profile: Select Gray Gamma 2.2. o Print Method > Rendering Intent: Select Perceptual (for RGB images) or Relative Colorimetric (for CMYK images).
• Select Print. The spectrophotometer allows HP Designjet Z3100 printers to generate custom ICC profiles automatically for your preferred paper types. If the printed image does not look correct, you can create your own color profile easily for use with your paper.
