You should consider that each person has their own perception and their own subjective opinion about the result; this is because there are various factors that can influence our opinions, such as the type of project (photo, design…), the source color space, the media used, the environmental conditions, the subjective perception about your own image, etc.... This means the printing suggestion may not completely match with your own personal opinion. 1.
. Create your own color Source Setup; Select Edit menu > Color Setups > Source… > New…: • Name: Choose a name to identify your custom Source Setup. • RGB tab > o Solid Colors > Profile: Adobe RGB (1998). o Solid Colors > Rendering Intent: Relative Colorimetric. o Pictures > Profile: Adobe RGB (1998). o Pictures > Rendering Intent: Perceptual. o Check Color Manage RGB Sources to RGB Destinations.
• • CMYK tab > o Solid Colors > Profile: Europe ISO Coated FOGRA27 (for Europe), U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2 (for US) and Japan Standard v2 (for Japan). o Solid Colors > Rendering Intent: Relative Colorimetric. o Pictures > Profile: Europe ISO Coated FOGRA27 (for Europe), U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2 (for US) and Japan Standard v2 (for Japan). o Pictures > Rendering Intent: Perceptual. o Check Color Manage CMYK Sources to CMYK Destinations. Select OK.
4. Create your own color Output Setup; Select Edit menu > Color Setups > Output… > New…: • Name: Choose a name to identify your custom Output Setup. • Mode: Select Composite. • Output Options > Model: Select RGB. • Output Options > Profile: Select the correct profile for your printer and paper type. If you are printing on photo gloss, semi-gloss or satin paper, select the right color profile with the gloss enhancement feature (GE ON), ex. HP Designjet Z3100, HP Premium Instant-dry Photo Satin.
5. Configure the QuarkXPress color Preferences, Edit menu > Preferences… > Color Manager pane (left hand menu under Default Print Layout option): • Check the Black Point Compensation checkbox. • Source Options > Source Setup: Select your custom Source Setup. • Soft Proofing > Proof Output: Select your custom Output Setup. • Soft Proofing > Rendering Intent: Select Perceptual. NOTE The default setting is Absolute Colorimetric.
10. QuarkXPress print settings, File menu > Print...: • Printer: Select your printer (ex. HP Designjet Z3100 44in Photo). • Color pane (left hand menu): o Color Options > Mode: Select Composite. o Color Options > Setup: Select your custom Output Setup.
11. Printer settings, Properties... button: • Paper/Quality tab: o Paper Type: Select the media type that is loaded on the printer. o Print Quality: Select Standard options and drag the slider to Quality.
• Color tab > Color Options: o Select Print in color. o Select Color Management > Application Managed Colors. • Select OK until the QuarkXPress Print dialog box. • Select Print.
