1 Remove the packaging Steps 1 to 4. This task requires 2 people. Time required is 5 minutes. 5' Boxes required x2 2 Remove the 4 upper plastic handles from the sides of the box (two each side), and then carefully remove the two side lids vertically. Carefully cut the straps around the boxes. Make sure that the boxes don't fall when the straps are cut. 3 Remove the boxes shown. x4 Page 2 4 5 Assemble the stand Remove the boxes shown. Steps 5 to 24. This task requires 2 people.
7 8 Locate the bag of screws and the screwdriver provided. Notice that the screwdriver is slightly magnetic. Because spare screws are supplied, some screws will remain unused after assembly of the printer. Remove the left leg from the box, and then remove the two pieces inside the leg. 9 10 Lower the left leg onto the left side of the cross-brace. The left leg will fit only on the left side of the cross-brace. Use four screws on the inside of the left leg to attach the left leg to the cross-brace.
15 16 Use four screws to attach the cross-bar to the legs. 17 Notice that there is anti-slip material around two of the wheels on the feet. DO NOT REMOVE this material yet. 18 Place a foot on the left leg. There are pins to help you correctly position the foot. Do not remove the anti-slip material from the wheel. Use four screws to attach the foot to the left leg. Tighten each screw half-way, and then gradually tighten each screw completely.
23 24 Attach the right stand spacer to the top of the right leg. Position the left and right leg covers on the front of the legs (1), and then clip the rear edge (2) into place. 25 Attach the printer engine to the Steps 25 to 37. stand This task requires 4 people. Time required is 15 minutes. 15' Remove the eight plastic handles, and then remove the box shown. x4 Boxes required x1 x8 x2 2 1 Page 5 26 Remove the two packing pieces shown.
30 31 Use two screws to attach the left side of the stand to the printer. Make sure that the screws are fully tightened. 32 Place the spare box and the comsumables box against the rear of the printer box. The arrows on the boxes must point towards the printer box. Make sure that the anti-slip material is attached to the two rear wheels. 33 Rotate the printer onto the spare box and the consumables box. HP recommends four people to complete this task.
38 Assemble the take-up reel Steps 38 to 68. This task requires 1 person. Time required is 35 minutes. 35' x1 39 Identify the four holes on the inside of the right leg. The holes are used to attach the take-up reel motor. Locate the bag of screws that is included in the take-up reel box. 40 Insert two screws into the two forward holes. Leave sufficient space between the screw heads and the leg to attach the take-up reel motor.
45 46 Insert two screws into the two forward holes. Leave sufficient space between the screw heads and the leg to attach the left side of the take-up reel assembly. 47 Attach the left side of the take-up reel assembly to the two screws, and then pull the take-up reel assembly down so that it rests securely on the screws. 48 Use one screw to attach the rear of the left side assembly, and then tighten all three screws. x2 Use four screws to attach the take-up reel deflector supports.
53 Connect the sensor cable to the rear of the take-up reel motor. Connect the sensor cable to the sensor unit located on the right foot. 54 55 Use the clips provided to attach the sensor cable to the lower cross-brace. Remove the take-up reel deflector from the box. 56 Attach the take-up reel deflector by inserting the left side of the deflector into the left deflector support, and then inserting the right side of the deflector into the right deflector support.
61 Slide the black hub onto the spindle so that the screw on the spindle fits into the slot on the spindle hub. 62 Tighten the plastic nut on the black hub. 63 Loosen the plastic nut on the blue hub. 64 Slide the blue hub onto the spindle. Tighten the plastic nut on the blue hub. Page 10 65 Raise the take-up reel deflector to its upright position. 66 Unlock the take-up reel by pushing the spindle lever to its upper most position.
Steps 69 to 74. This task requires 1 person. Time required is 5 minutes. 5' 70 69 Unpack more components x1 Remove the packing tapes marked 1 to 7 from the exterior of the printer, and then lower the take-up reel deflector. 71 Open the printer window, and then remove the packing items 1 to 5 from the interior of the printer. Remove the protective covering from the printer window and the front panel screen.
75 Plug the power cable into the rear of the printer, and then plug the other end into the AC power outlet. 76 Turn the Power switch to the On position at the rear of the printer. 77 If the power light on the front panel remains off, press the Power button to switch on the printer. 78 Wait until this message appears on the front panel (~1 minute). Use the Up and Down buttons to highlight the language you want, and then press the OK button. 1' Page 12 79 Wait until this message appears.
83 Push the ink cartridge drawer back into the printer until the drawer locks into position. 84 The printer "beeps" when the cartridge is correctly installed. 85 86 Follow the same instructions to insert the other seven ink cartridges. Press the OK button. Wait until this message appears on the front panel. 2' Page 13 87 Pull open the maintenance cartridge door, which is located on the right side of the printer. 88 Remove the transparent shipping tray.
91 Remove the packing tape that is holding down the printhead carriage latch. 92 Pull up and release the blue latch on top of the carriage assembly. Lift the blue latch to open the printhead cover. 93 Before removing the setup printheads, look at each printhead and verify that each printhead contains ink. 94 Remove all of the setup printheads. Page 14 95 Shake the printhead vigorously for about 15 second. Be careful not to strike it against any surface because this can damage the printhead.
99 100 If a "Reseat" message appears on the front panel, check that all of the protective tape has been removed, and then firmly reseat the printheads. If the problem persists, refer to the HP Start-Up Kit CD/DVD. 101 Close the carriage assembly cover. Lower and lock the blue latch. Make sure that the blue latch is correctly engaged, and then lower the latch. 102 Close the printer window. Page 15 103 104 Load the paper Wait until the Ready for paper message appears on the front panel.
106 107 Unlock and remove the blue hub from the left end of the spindle. Keep the spindle horizontal. Place one of the two rolls of paper that came with your printer in the middle of the take-up reel deflector. 108 Make sure that the black hub on the right side of the spindle is fully inserted into the roll of paper. (No gap should exist between the spindle hub and the roll.) 109 Slide the blue hub onto the spindle.
114 Open the printer window. 115 Lift the paper-load lever. 116 117 Pull out approximately 1m (3 feet) of paper to avoid back tension on the spindle, which can cause difficulties when loading the paper into the printer. Insert the lead-edge of the paper into the printer, above the black roller. 1m (3ft) Page 17 118 Wait until the paper emerges from the printer as shown. 119 Make sure that the paper is aligned with the blue line and the semicircle on the platen. 120 Lower the paper-load lever.
122 Use the hubs to wind the excess paper onto the spindle. 123 Lower the printer window. 124 125 Press the OK button when this message appears on the front panel. Use the hubs to wind the excess paper onto the spindle. Page 18 126 Confirm the paper type and paper length of the roll that you loaded into the printer. This information is included on the packaging label.
