Option ROM. ProLiant Servers have h ard drives and Sm a rt Array Controller options that have rmware
that can be updated.
It is important to update the rmware (also called ashing the ROM”) as part of regular server
maintenance. In addition, checking for specic rmware updates in between regular updates helps to
keep the server performing optimally. HP recommends checking for a rmwareupdatebeforesendinga
part back to HP for replacement.
Apply the latest rmware and software updates using the HP ProLiant Storage Server Ser vice Release
DVD. The DVD provides software updates, upgrades, and enhancements for the storage server. The
Service Release c a n be ordered without cost from h
ttp://software.hp.com.Onthewebsite,selectthe
“Storage and NAS” category. The latest service release version appears in the list of available software.
Maintenance and service
This section describes some of the most common hardware m aintenance and servicing procedures for the
HP ProLiant
DL100G2DataProtectionStorageServer.
The server d
oes not completely power off when the front panel power button is pressed. The power
button toggles server power between On and Standby. In Standby, the server removes power from most
electronics and drives, while portions of the power supply and some internal circuitry remain active. To
completely remove power from the system, disconnect the power cords from the ser ver.
Chassis covers
Two covers can be removed from the top of the DL100 G 2:

CAUTION:
Remove power to the server by disconnecting the power cord before removing or installing the chassis
top covers.
T o remove the front top cover:
1. Loosen the four screws along the top edge and the two screws on both sides of the cover.
