3.7.0 HP StorageWorks HP Scalable NAS File Serving Software upgrade guide HP Scalable NAS for Linux (AG513-96005, October 2009)

NOTE:
If a server is accidentally upgraded out of order, when a higher-number server joins
the cluster, the servers still running the old version of HP Clustered File System/Matrix
Server will think they need to leave the cluster and will no longer send configuration
and status updates. To correct this problem, stop HP Scalable NAS File Serving
Software on the node that was upgraded out of order. Continue upgrading the other
nodes before starting HP Scalable NAS File Serving Software on that node.
MxFS migration package
Install the MxFS migration package
The MxFS migration package should be installed on all nodes in the cluster before
upgrading to 3.7.0. The package includes tools that package and save the MxReg
registry information on each node. The MxFS migration package is provided in the
RPM mxfs-migration-3.5.1-<xxxx>.<arch>.rpm, which is included in the
product distribution and is also available as a stand-alone package in your download
area on www.hp.com.
Install the package as follows on each node:
# rpm -i <mountpoint>/mxfs-migration-3.5.1-<xxxx>.<arch>.rpm
Overview of the migration process
The MxReg registry information includes the NFS export group configuration and the
MxReg state information. There are three parts to the migration of the data:
When upgrading the first node, you will be prompted by the mximport tool to
specify a location to store the migrated data.
When upgrading subsequent nodes, you will need to run a script that copies the
MxReg data from those nodes to the location identified for mximport during the
upgrade of the first node.
When all nodes are upgraded, HP Scalable NAS creates the new mxds datastore
on the 3.7.0 cluster.
