3.7.0 HP StorageWorks HP Scalable NAS File Serving Software upgrade guide HP Scalable NAS for Linux (AG513-96005, October 2009)

4 Upgrade Matrix Server and
MxDB-Oracle-HiAv and change the
Oracle word size
These instructions provide a guide for upgrading a typical MxDB-Oracle-HiAv 3.5.1
Oracle single-instance database running in a cluster with a 32-bit operating system.
You may need to modify this process to fit the needs of your site. For example, you
may have additional packages or applications that need to be migrated. Be sure to
test the upgrade process thoroughly before deploying the process on production
systems.
Upgrades to the HP Scalable NAS File Serving Software and MxDB-Oracle-HiAv
3.7.0 releases are supported only from the Matrix Server and MxDB-Oracle-HiAv
3.5.1 releases. If the Management Console is installed on client machines, you will
also need to upgrade that software.
Upgrade considerations and preconditions
You should be aware of the following when upgrading to the HP Scalable NAS and
MxDB-Oracle-HiAv 3.7.0 releases.
Oracle considerations
Oracle does not support running the Linux 32-bit Oracle version on a 64-bit Linux
operating system (see Metalink article 62290.1: Changing between 32-bit and 64-bit
Word Sizes). Oracle requires that the database be in an upgrade mode when
performing upgrade procedures that involve a word size change (from 32-bit to
64-bit Oracle binaries). Therefore, changing the Oracle database word size during
the upgrade to HP Scalable NAS/MxDB-Oracle-HiAv 3.7.0 will require a longer
service outage than an upgrade from a 64-bit Matrix Server 3.5.1 system.
The cluster to be upgraded must be running Oracle10g Release 2, the Oracle version
supported with the 3.5.1 release. When upgrading Oracle to a 64-bit word size,
