Upgrade filesystems for small files (optional)
The 3.7.0 release includes a performance enhancement for small files on PSFS
filesystems. This feature is enabled by default in PSFS filesystems created on HP
Scalable NAS 3.7.0. PSFS filesystems created on earlier releases must be upgraded
to enable the small files performance enhancement. Turning on this feature will not
improve the read time of pre-3.7.0 les, but should improve the read performance
of any new small les that are created on the lesystem.
The filesystem is upgraded with the psfsck command, which enables the feature
internally on the filesystem. Consequently, a brief, cluster-wide outage of the filesystem
is required during the upgrade.
To upgrade a PSFS filesystem for the small files performance enhancement feature,
take the following steps:
1. Stop all applications using the filesystem.
2. Unmount the filesystem on all nodes.
3. Run the following command:
# /opt/hpcfs/sbin/psfsck e enable-smallfiles <device>
The device can be either a psd or psv device. Use this syntax to specify the
device:
For a psd device partition, the device is specified as /dev/psd/psdXXXpYY,
where XXX is the drive number and YY is the partition number. For example,
/dev/psd/psd6p4 specifies partition 4 on disk psd6.
For a non-partitioned psd device, the device is specified as /dev/psd/
psdXXX, where XXX is the drive number. For example, /dev/psd/psd5.
For a psv device, the device is specified as /dev/psv/psvXXX, where XXX
is the volume number. For example, /dev/psv/psv1.
4. Mount the filesystem.
5. Restart the applications that use the filesystem.
