Chapter 14: Cluster Operations on the Applications Tab 174
• Switch the primary and backup servers (or two backup servers) for a
virtual host. Drag the virtual host from one server cell to the cell for
the other server. If the virtual host is active, this operation can
disconnect existing applications that depend on the virtual host. When
the operation is complete, the ordering for failover will be switched.
• Remove a virtual host from a server. Drag the virtual host from the
server cell to the virtual host cell in the Name column. Any service
monitors associated with the virtual host will also be removed. If the
virtual host was primary on the server, it will fail over to a backup
server. If the virtual host was a backup, any other backups will be
reordered as necessary.
Device Monitors
• Add a device monitor to a server. Drag the device monitor from the
Name column to the empty server cell. If the device monitor is single-
active, the server will become a backup for the device monitor. If the
device monitor is multi-active, it will become active on the new server.
Alternatively, for a multi-active monitor, you can drag the monitor
from a server cell where it is currently active to the empty cell for the
new server.
• Move the primary for a single-active device monitor to a new server.
Drag the device monitor from the current primary server to the empty
cell for the new server. This operation will cause a temporary
disruption of the monitor. When the operation is complete, the new
server will be primary for the device monitor and the original server
will be a backup.
• Switch the primary and backup servers (or two backup servers) for a
single-active device monitor. Drag the device monitor from one
server cell to the cell for the other server. When the operation is
complete, the ordering for failover will be switched. This operation
will cause a temporary disruption of the monitor.
• Remove a device monitor from a server. Drag the device monitor
from the server cell to the device monitor cell in the Name column. If
the device monitor was single-active, the primary and backups will be
