About this guide
1 Overview HP Scalable NAS generates an event message when an error condition or failure occurs or when the status of the cluster changes. To provide an audit trail of cluster operations, a message is also generated when a user requests and is granted or denied authorization to perform a task. Event messages are logged and can be viewed either with the Cluster Event Viewer provided with the HP Scalable NAS Management Console or with command-line tools.
The mxlogd process transmits the event message only one time. If a server is down at the time of the transmission, the message will not appear in the cluster log on that server. View event logs The cluster log is not intended to be read directly. Instead, use these methods: • The Cluster Event Viewer. This tool, available on the HP Scalable NAS Management Console, shows the messages in the cluster log on a particular server. • The mx server viewevents command.
Event messages Each message is labeled with a unique identifier and provides the following information. Some event messages also describe corrective actions or workarounds. • A description of the event, including the time it occurred. • The location of the event, such as the IP address of a server. • The source of the event, such as a HP Scalable NAS component. • A severity level that indicates the relative importance of the event.

If the server owning the address is configured in the cluster but HP Scalable NAS is down, reboot the server to get the operating system to release the IP address. Otherwise, another device reachable on the network already owns the IP address.ID Message and Corrective Action Probe failed: configuration error, script
