1 HP Technical Support Telephone numbers for worldwide technical support are listed on the following HP web site: http://www.hp.com/support. From this web site, select the country of origin. For example, the North American technical support number is 800-633-3600. NOTE: For continuous quality improvement, calls may be recorded or monitored.
Chapter 1: HP Technical Support 2 HP NAS Services Web Site The HP NAS Services site allows you to choose from convenient HP Care Pack Services packages or implement a custom support solution delivered by HP ProLiant Storage Server specialists and/or our certified service partners. For more information see us at: http://www.hp.com/hps/storage/ns_nas.html. For complete documentation For the complete set of HP Clustered Gateway 3.6.0 documentation, see http://www.hp.com/support/manuals.
2 Upgrade procedure Supported Upgrades This guide provides procedures for upgrading from HP Clustered Gateway 3.4.0 (32-bit) for Windows to HP Clustered Gateway 3.6.0 (64bit) for Windows. Upgrade Considerations Several product changes in HP Clustered File System 3.6.0 affect the upgrade procedure. Be sure to review the following information before starting the upgrade. NOTE: Do not make configuration changes until the upgrade to 3.6 is complete; otherwise, before the upgrade is complete, use the 3.
Chapter 2: Upgrade procedure 4 If the cluster is only partially upgraded, alerts raised by nodes running 3.6 will be improperly logged by nodes running 3.4. Also, until the entire cluster is upgraded, many services that are run on 3.6 nodes must be run as local system administrator. Use Another Machine to Store All Backups As part of the upgrade process, you will have to back up configuration details and other important files before initiating upgrade.
Chapter 2: Upgrade procedure 5 HP Clustered File System Changes You should be aware of the following changes: • Concatenated dynamic volumes. If your cluster configuration includes concatenated volumes, we recommend that you re-create them after completing the HP Clustered File System upgrade. (The volumes can continue to be concatenated when they are re-created.) The volume disaster recovery feature cannot be used with a concatenated dynamic volume that has not been re-created.
Chapter 2: Upgrade procedure 6 Back Up the Existing Cluster Before starting the upgrade, HP strongly recommends that you back up the following: • The membership partitions. During the upgrade, the new mxds datastore will be installed on the membership partitions. Although unlikely, I/O errors during this step could potentially damage a membership partition, necessitating restoring the original membership partitions. • Your existing cluster configuration on each server.
Chapter 2: Upgrade procedure 7 • The \conf\debug subdirectory Do not back up the mounts and licenses subdirectories. You will have to back up the \conf directory of each node in the cluster before initiating the upgrade of that node. You will have to restore the contents of the \conf directory at a later stage during the upgrade process. Pre-Upgrade Tasks • If you have CVEVA 5.0 in your environment, back up the file sssu.
Chapter 2: Upgrade procedure 8 Upgrading to 3.6.0 Upgrading the Node with Highest IP 1. Boot using the HP Clustered Gateway 3.6.0 WSS x64 upgrade DVD and Quick Restore (QR) the machine. NOTE: During the QR process, if an error message "Partitionand Format:CreatePartition:failed to create partition…" appears, restart the QR process. 2. After the quick restore is complete: a. Log in to the machine with the login name Administrator and password hpinvent. Accept the 3.6.0 End User License Agreement. b.
Chapter 2: Upgrade procedure 9 NOTE: The drive letter assignment may have changed in the node that was upgraded to 3.6.0. To restore the original drive letter assignment to all the filesystems and dynamic volumes, run the command 'dledit -p' from path 'C:\Program Files\HewlettPackard\HP Clustered File System\bin'. Upgrading Subsequent Nodes 1. Boot using the HP Clustered Gateway 3.6.0 WSS x64 upgrade DVD and Quick Restore (QR) the machine.
Chapter 2: Upgrade procedure 10 7. Click the Import tab, and enter IP address/host name of a node already upgraded to 3.6.0. This will import configuration settings from that node. 8. Go to the Cluster-Wide configuration tab. Select the current node and click StartService. This will start HPCFS 3.6.0 service on that node. NOTE: The drive letter assignment may have changed in the node that was upgraded to 3.6.0.
Chapter 2: Upgrade procedure 11 c. Click Add, and enter the IP address, username and password of the HP Command View v6 manager. d. Click the Test configuration tab, and if the configuration is successful, click Apply. e. Go to the Cluster-wide Configuration tab, and export the configuration to the other nodes in the cluster. Changes Necessitated by the Upgrade After upgrading to the HP Clustered File System 3.
Chapter 2: Upgrade procedure 12 If three membership partitions are configured, the replacements can be done one-at-a-time while the cluster is online. If only one membership partition is configured, the cluster must be offline when the partition is replaced. See "Manage Membership Partitions" in the HP StorageWorks Clustered File System Administration Guide for more information. Re-create Notifiers If you previously used notifier scripts, you will need to re-create the notifiers.
Chapter 2: Upgrade procedure 13 CAUTION: Be sure to back up the filesystem on the volume before re- creating the volume. This procedure requires that you also recreate the filesystem on the volume, which destroys all data on the filesystem. After the volume and the filesystem are recreated, you can manually restore the data from your backup. To re-create a concatenated dynamic volume, take these steps: 1. Back up the data on the volume. 2. Re-create the dynamic volume.
Chapter 2: Upgrade procedure 14 HP advises customers to remove any custom setting of GcTrimLevel after upgrading to HP Clustered File System 3.6. Upgrade the HP CFS Management Console on Clients The stand-alone HP CFS Management Console must be upgraded to version 3.6.0 on any client systems currently running an earlier version of the console. The stand-alone console cannot be installed on a server running HP Clustered File System 3.6.
