1 HP Technical Support Telephone numbers for worldwide technical support are listed on the following HP web site: http://www.hp.com/support. From this web site, select the country of origin. For example, the North American technical support number is 800-633-3600. NOTE: For continuous quality improvement, calls may be recorded or monitored.
Chapter 1: HP Technical Support For complete documentation For the complete set of HP Clustered Gateway 3.6.1 documentation, see http://www.hp.com/support/manuals. Under Storage, click Disk Storage Systems, and then click HP StorageWorks Enterprise File Services Clustered Gateway.
2 Upgrade procedure Supported Upgrades This guide provides procedures for upgrading from: • HP Clustered Gateway 3.4.0 (32-bit) Windows to HP Clustered Gateway 3.6.1 (64-bit) for Windows • HP Clustered Gateway 3.6.0 (64-bit) Windows to HP Clustered Gateway 3.6.1 (64-bit) for Windows In both cases, use the CGW 3.6.1 v1 QR DVD. NOTE: Alternatively, for a working in site CGW 3.6.0 cluster, you can use the software-only 'Upgrade Kit' to upgrade to CGW 3.6.1.
Chapter 2: Upgrade procedure 4 Also, until the entire cluster is upgraded, many services that are run on 3.6.1 nodes must be run as local system administrator. Use Another Machine to Store All Backups As part of the upgrade process, you will have to back up configuration details and other important files before initiating upgrade. The section 'Backup the Existing Cluster' specifies all the files that will have to be backed up. These files will have to be restored at a later stage during the upgrade.
Chapter 2: Upgrade procedure 5 • HP Clustered File System now uses single sign-on authentication. The admin user, the mxpasswd file, and the mxpasswd command are now obsolete. • The minimum size for a membership partition is now 1GB. If your existing membership partitions are too small to accommodate the new mxds datastore, which is included in the membership partitions, an alert will be generated after the upgrade to 3.6.
Chapter 2: Upgrade procedure 6 Upgrading to 3.6.1 Upgrading from 3.4.0 to 3.6.1 Back Up the Existing Cluster Before starting the upgrade, HP strongly recommends that you back up the following: • The membership partitions. During the upgrade, the new mxds datastore will be installed on the membership partitions. Although unlikely, I/O errors during this step could potentially damage a membership partition, necessitating restoring the original membership partitions.
Chapter 2: Upgrade procedure 7 • The files directly under \conf • The \conf\debug subdirectory Do not back up the mounts and licenses subdirectories. You will have to back up the \conf directory of each node in the cluster before initiating the upgrade of that node. You will have to restore the contents of the \conf directory at a later stage during the upgrade process. Upgrading the Node with Highest IP 1. Boot the server using the HP Clustered Gateway 3.6.
Chapter 2: Upgrade procedure 8 NOTE: When prompted, "Do you want to replace the existing files?," click Yes to all. 8. Start the Management Console. When prompted "The HP CFS Management console service is configured but might not be started. Would you like to start it now?," click Yes. This will start HPCFS 3.6.1 service on the node. NOTE: The drive letter assignment may have changed on the node that was upgraded to 3.6.1.
Chapter 2: Upgrade procedure 9 Upgrading Subsequent Nodes 1. Boot the server using the HP Clustered Gateway 3.6.1 WSS x64 upgrade DVD and delete existing logical drives. Make sure no default logical drives are created. This enables new drive partition settings in CGW 3.6.1. WARNING: Deleting the drives erases all data on the drives. Any local data should be backed up prior to this step to avoid data loss. 2. Complete the quick restore (QR) of the machine. 3.
Chapter 2: Upgrade procedure 10 NOTE: The drive letter assignment may have changed on the node that was upgraded to 3.6.1. To restore the original drive letters assigned to the filesystems and dynamic volumes on the upgraded node, complete the following steps: a. Open the HP CFS Management Console. b. Click the Filesystems tab on the Management Console. c. Right-click one of the filesystems in the list, and select Assign Path. d. When prompted to select a drive letter from the drop-down menu, click OK.
Chapter 2: Upgrade procedure 11 7. Start the Management Console. At the prompt, "Cluster not configured. Do you want to configure the cluster?" click Yes. 8. Click the Import tab, and enter IP address/host name of any working node in the cluster. This imports configuration settings from that node. 9. On the Cluster-Wide configuration tab, select the current node that was been quick restored, and click Start Service. This starts the HPCFS 3.6.1 service on that node.
Chapter 2: Upgrade procedure 12 Post-Upgrade Procedures If HP Command View EVA v5.x is Present 1. Rename file 'SSSU.exe' present in folder C:\Program Files\Hewlett Packard\Sanworks\Element Manager for Storageworks HSV\Bridge to SSSU_x64_8.exe. (This file is SSSU version 8 and can be used when environment is migrated to HP Command View EVA v8 in the future.) 2. Restore the file sssu.exe that you had backed up as part of 'Pre-upgrade procedures' to this location. If HP Command View EVA v6.
Chapter 2: Upgrade procedure 13 Performance dashboard The HP Clustered File System 3.6.1 has an additional utility, Performance Dashboard, that gets installed during the upgrade. Performance Dashboard provides performance information for the cluster, individual servers, and PSFS filesystems. See the HP StorageWorks Clustered File System 3.6.1 administration guide for details about how to use this performance monitoring utility.
Chapter 2: Upgrade procedure 14 The filesystem is upgraded with the psfscheck command, which enables this feature internally on the filesystem. Consequently, a brief, clusterwide outage of the filesystem is required during the upgrade. (If 8.3 support is also needed, both features can be enabled at the same time as described in the next section.) To upgrade a PSFS filesystem for ADS support, take the following steps: 1. Stop all applications using the filesystem. 2.
Chapter 2: Upgrade procedure 15 2. Run the following command at the Command Prompt (the command is shown on two lines for readability): %SystemDrive%\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\Clustered File System\bin\psfscheck -e enable8dot3 The device can be specified in several ways: • By the drive letter, such as X: • By the mount point (junction), such as C:\san\vol2 • By the psd or psv name, such as psd2p2 or psv3 3. Restart the applications that use the filesystem.
Chapter 2: Upgrade procedure 16 To replace a membership partition, open the Configure Cluster window and go to the Storage Settings tab, which shows the size of each membership partition. If a partition contains less than 1 GB, select the partition, click Replace, and then select a new partition. If three membership partitions are configured, the replacements can be done oneat-a-time while the cluster is online.
Chapter 2: Upgrade procedure 17 3. Create a new filesystem on the volume. On the HP CFS Management Console, select Cluster > Add > Add Filesystem. Select the re-created volume on the Create Filesystems window and set the appropriate filesystem options. To create the filesystem from the command line, use either the mx fs create command or the psfsformat command. See the HP Clustered FileSystem Administration Guide for details about these commands. 4. Restore the filesystem data to the new dynamic volume.
Chapter 2: Upgrade procedure 18 Upgrade the HP CFS Management Console on Clients The stand-alone HP CFS Management Console must be upgraded to version 3.6.1 on any client systems currently running an earlier version of the console. The stand-alone console cannot be installed on a server already running HP Clustered File System 3.6. (HP Clustered File System includes a built-in version of the HP CFS Management Console.) Complete these steps: 1.
Chapter 2: Upgrade procedure 19 • Support for 8.3 Short File Names (SFN) and name tunneling. By default, support for this feature is disabled. See ì Upgrade Filesystems for 8.3 SFN Support If Neededî on page 32. • Event notifiers. The event notifier services can be configured to send an SNMP trap, send email, or run a script when specific HP Clustered File System events occur. • HP Clustered File System SNMP service.
