Interface controller firmware incompatibility Read Me First (AD569-96008, December 2008)

READ ME FIRST
Check firmware version first
The firmware version in this interface controller, version 5.9.44 and above, is incompatible with
Interface Manager card firmware versions I170, I180, I200, I220, I230, and I231. Before installing
the interface controller, check the Interface Manager card's firmware version and upgrade if necessary.
To check the Interface Manager card’s firmware version:
1. Do one of the following:
In the Command Line Interface (CLI), enter the command:
show mgmt revision
In the Command View TL GUI, manage the library in which you will install the interface con-
troller. Click the Status tab. In the left panel, select Interface Manager. In the right panel, select
the Interface Manager card, and then select Actions > Properties.
2. If the firmware version is I200, I220, I230, or I231, upgrade it to version I232, or a later version.
In this case, you do not need to complete the remainder of the steps in this document.
3. If the firmware version is I170 or I180, upgrade it to version I182 or a later version of I18x using
the instructions below to update the firmware with the CLI. Do not migrate to I2xx at this time.
NOTE:
If you do not want to run Interface Manager firmware version I182, downgrade the interface
controller firmware to 5.6.xx or 5.7.xx, then downgrade the Interface Manager firmware
to its original version. Downgrading requires the factory password (see “Using factory
overrides” in the Command View TL user guide or online help).
To update the firmware with the CLI:
1. From a computer on the LAN, download firmware version I182 or a later version of I18x.
a. Go to the HP web site: http://www.hp.com/support/cvtl.
b. Click Download drivers and software.
c. Chose your operating system.
d. Click the Download button next to Interface Manager Firmware: ESL9000 or EML/ESL-E
upgrading from below I182.
e. Click Save, go to the directory where you want to save the firmware, and then click Save.
