NOTE:

This part is hot-pluggable when replacing a drive in the library

(power off the tape drive, but not the library to replace this

part); however, a library power cycle is required when installing

a new drive.

Inspect the contents of the kit

Note that tape drive replacement kits do not contain a cable. You may

also need a slotted screwdriver to install the tape drive.

Drive clusters

Drive clusters are numbered from 0 to 5 starting at the top of the cabinet.

In each drive cluster the drives are identified as follows: top right is A,

top left is B, bottom right is C, bottom left is D. A drawing of the drive

cluster is located on the inside back door.

3. Remove the drive bay cover. a. Go to the instructions for your library configuration Locate the next vacant drive bay. Tape drives must occupy consecutive drive clusters, beginning with drive cluster 0 (at the top of the cabinet) moving right to left, and from top to bottom. This tape module kit can be used to add an LTO4 (Ultrium 1840) or LTO5 (Ultrium 3280) tape drive to a library or replace an existing LTO2 (Ultrium 460), LTO3 (Ultrium 960), LTO4, or LTO5 tape drive.

7. Power on the library. a. Verify that the power cables are firmly in place. b. Flip the two breaker switches on (to the right) at the power distribution unit. c. On the front of the library, push the power button to power on the library (the button will depress). The library will take 20 minutes or more to boot, depending on the configuration. d. Verify that the current state of the library that appears in the System State display on the OCP is “Online, OK”. 12.

12. Make sure that the tape drive has the latest firmware for correct operation. If necessary, upgrade the drive firmware using the Command View TL firmware upgrade wizard or the Interface Manager card CLI. See the HP StorageWorks Interface Manager and Command View TL User Guide for detailed procedures on upgrading drive firmware. 5. NOTE: After a drive replacement, you may also be required to run specific OS commands from the HPUX host in order to verify the drive path.

9. Connect the cables. 13. Reset the Interface Manager card defaults from Command View TL or the Interface Manager card CLI. Retain the Interface Manager Network Settings, SNMP Settings, and Trace and Event logs. CAUTION: To reset the Interface Manager card defaults from Command View TL: To avoid damaging FC cables, do not bend them sharply or pinch them. Allow a radial bend when reattaching the FC cables. a. b. Connect the FC cable you removed from the old tape drive to port A on the new drive.

17. Configure the SAN switch. 2. Upgrade all other library and drive firmware. 1. Rezone the SAN, if necessary, to account for new hardware and paths. a. Upgrade the firmware for all library components so they will recognize the LTO4 or LTO5 tape drive. 2. Reboot the SAN FC switch, if necessary. b. Upgrade the drive firmware for all LTO2 and LTO3 tape drives in the library so they will properly handle the LTO4 and LTO5 media. 18.

6. Identify the tape drive to be replaced. The LED of the drive to be replaced will be off. 9. Using a slotted screwdriver, loosen the captive screw at the upper left corner of the drive module. Grasp the drive handle and pull the drive from its bay. CAUTION: To avoid damaging the drive, do not remove it if the LED is still lit. Power off the tape drive from the OCP before removing it. 10. 11. Connect the cables. 16. To configure the new tape drive, on the OCP, verify that the number of configured drives in the library is correct. If the number of configured drives is incorrect, use the OCP to change the number. This will require a library reboot. CAUTION: To avoid damaging FC cables, do not bend them sharply or pinch them. 5. From the HPUX host run ioscan. (Do not run any other version of ioscan.) Compare these to the syslog error message and identify the proper tape device name through the lunpath/tgtpath. 6. From the HPUX host run scsimgr –f replace_wwid –D /dev/ rtape/tape[##]_BEST dsf, where [##] is the device file for one of the tape drives, to validate the new WWID on the previous hardware path. 7. From the HPUX host run ioscan –fnC tape to verify that the devices are claimed and accessible.
