Networking flexibility in HP ProLiant servers with FlexibleLOM technology

3
Figure 2 shows a FlexibleLOM adapter for an HP rack mount server. The adapter connects to (and in the same plane as)
the system board and is secured to the chassis floor with a captive thumbscrew. As with traditional LOM
implementations, the adapter’s network connectors are accessible through the rear panel of the server chassis.
Figure 2: This illustration shows the installation of a FlexibleLOM adapter in an HP rack-mount server.
FlexibleLOM technology uses a custom implementation of the PCIe 3.0 x8 interface, but does not require any additional
CPU resources over standard LOM architecture and does not occupy a regular PCI slot. FlexibleLOM technology maintains
the full functionality of LOM architecture including Wake-on-LAN and thermal management. You can also view the
status of a FlexibleLOM on the System Insight Display (Figure 3).
Figure 3: This illustration shows the FlexibleLOM adapter NIC indicators on the server’s front panel System Insight Display.
As of this writing, the following FlexibleLOM adapters are available for HP ProLiant Gen8 rack mount servers:
HP Ethernet 1 Gb 4-Port 331FLR Adapter (standard configuration) provides full line rate performance across all ports,
supports large send and receive offload capability, VLAN tagging, and virtualization features.
HP Ethernet 10 Gb 2-Port 530FLR SFP+ Adapter provides latest generation single-chip 10GbE solution from Broadcom
supporting VLAN tagging, NIC teaming, PXE boot, and virtualization features.
HP FlexFabric 10 Gb 2-Port 554FLR SFP+ Adapter provides Ethernet, Ethernet and iSCSI, FCoE, or FlexFabric
connectivity and supports converged enhanced Ethernet standards.
