HP Controller Enclosure Management Module Replacement Instructions (5697-2646, June 2013)

Verifying component failure
Use the following methods to verify component failure:
Verify the management module status using HP
P6000 Command View:
1. In the navigation pane, select Storage
SystemHardwareController
EnclosureManagement Module.
2. In the Management Module Properties
window, observe the status. An operational
state of (Failed) indicates a fault that may
require a replacement.
3. To help identify the correct enclosure, select
Controller Enclosure in the navigation pane,
and then click LocateLocate On in the
content pane.
This causes the blue UID indicator to blink
on the controller enclosure.
Observe the array management module LEDs:
Green—Normal operation
Amber—Fault condition (except during start
up, when some cycling of the LED occurs)
Off—No active remote management
Ethernet LEDs—Solid green indicates a link.
Flashing yellow indicates activity.
Removing a management module
Observe proper antistatic guidelines when working
on computer hardware.
NOTE: To maintain configuration information,
such as IP address, perform this procedure with
power on.
1. Unplug the Ethernet cable from the module.
2. Lift up the latch on the module (1, Figure 2 (page
2)) and pull the module out slightly.
3. Position one hand under the module, and with
the other hand, pull the module out of the
controller enclosure (2, Figure 2 (page 2)).

Installing a management module
1. Insert the management module partially into the
slot in the controller enclosure.
2. Lift up the latch (1, Figure 2 (page 2)) and push
the module forward until you hear a click. This
indicates that the module is fully seated.
3. Plug the Ethernet cable into the module.
NOTE: Due to hardware restrictions, some
older HP P6000 Command View Versions do
not work with current management modules. In
this case, when you attempt to code load an
older .pkg file, the load fails with a P6000
Control Panel message indicating the .pkg is
incompatible with the hardware.
Verifying proper operation
After replacing the management module, do the
following to verify the component is operating
properly:
NOTE: Wait approximately five minutes for
the system to check the component status.
Verify that the green LED is lit. If it is not, try
reseating the management module.
From HP P6000 Command View, navigate to the
component as described in “Verifying component
failure (page 2), and verify that the status is
(Good).
NOTE: You cannot store modifications to the
management module settings if the array is not
initialized.
