Host server considerations
This section provides important information about the host server.
Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003 considerations
Drive-let
ter remapping can occur in the following situations and can affect data access.
Replacing one server with another
Replacing an FCA in one of your systems
During a se
rver or adapter changeover, use Disk M anager to manually remap drives to drive
letters. This restores proper access to your data.
When you replace an FCA in a server, you must reinstall the adapter driver. Windows 2000
and Window
s Ser ver 2003 automatically reload the original adapter driver and reset important
registr y settings. New connections are created on the HSV controller. Assign the new WWN s to
the appropriate host.
Registry growth in Windows
The Windows plug-and-play feature limits the number of plug-and-play devices that are added or removed
from the registry. When you add or remove devices, or create or delete snapshots, the plug-and-play
manager adds entries to the registry, which can cause the registry to exceed the allowed capacity.
If the reg istr y contains more tha n 700 entries, the next time the system reboots, the following error
message appears: Failed to load Windows 2000 due to a file missing or corrupt
in the \WINNT\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM directory.

Windows 2 000 dynamic disk snapshots and snapclones
