cache battery in EVA4x00/6x00/8x00 products, with the

exception of the EVA4400. For the latest documentation, go to

Before you begin

Observe the following precautions when replacing a cache battery.

CAUTION:

Parts can be

damaged by electrostatic discharge. Use proper

anti-stat

ic protection.

NOTE:

The quantity of installed cache batteries var i es with EVA models.

Two battery slots are located at the left front of the controller

enclosure. Two additional battery slots are located behind the

operator control panel (OCP).

Verifying component failure

Use the following methods to verify component failure:

CAUTION:

If HP Command View EVA does not present a status consistent with

the battery status indicator, or if either HP Command View EVA or

your system monitoring tool indicates multiple hardware failures,

contact HP support for assistance (h

ttp://www.hp.com/support).

• Analy

ze any failure messages received. Fault m onitoring software

from HP (WEBES) provides a recommended solution.

• Check status using HP Command View EVA:

1. In the navigation pane, select Storage system > Hardware >

Rack > Controller Enclosure > C ontroller.

NOTE:

TheEVA6400/8400doesnothaveaRackselectionin

the navigation pane.

2. In the Content pane, select the Enclosure tab. The status is

displayed in the Cache Battery M odules ﬁeld. The status should

(Failed).

3. To help identify the correct controller, click Locate > Locate On to display Locate Confirmed on the OCP. The blue Unit ID indicator will also turn on. • Check the battery status indicators (Figure 1). The battery fault indicator should be on. If there is a battery failure, the status indicator will be off and the fault indicator will be on (not flashing). See Table 1 for descriptions of the battery status indicators.

2. Remove the cache battery. Some EVA models have a cache battery located behind the OCP. NOTE: It may take up to 10 minutes for the component to display a good status. a. If necessary, open the OCP by squeezing the latch tabs together (1, Figure 3) and swinging the door open (2) to check for a battery. b. Move the battery mounting latch (3) to the right and grasp the pull handle. c. • Check the battery status indicators. See Table 1.
