A9782A & A9784A PCI-X 2 Gigabit Fibre Channel and Gigabit Ethernet Combination Card Installation Guide

OpenVMS Installation
Step 5: Connect the fibre channel devices

Step 5: Connect the fibre channel devices
Attach the LC connector from a fibre channel cable to the fibre channel connector on the card (Figure 1).
For fibre channel, the cable must be 50 micron MMF. If the remote connection is type SC, you will need an
LC-to-SC conversion cable.
Plug the other end of the fibre channel cable into the connector on your fibre channel switch or device.
Ensure power cable is connected to the system.
Step 6: Boot the System
Boot the system with appropriate VMS boot flags according to system documentation.
When OpenVMS starts up, execute the following commands:
1. Log in as SYSTEM.
2. Check the OpenVMS version by executing SHOW SYSTEM. The version must be V8.2 (or later).
Step 7: Configure the card using LANCP
1. Log in as SYSTEM and verify that the card and its hardware path are displayed by executing
MC LANCP SHOW CONFIG
The LAN device characteristics that can be set include speed, duplex mode, flow control, and whether
jumbo frames are enabled. The MC LANCP SET DEVICE and LANCP DEFINE DEVICE commands
modify these settings.
2. Set the desired characteristics according to the Network Configuration worksheet (see Table 2-1). For
example, use this command:
MC LANCP DEFINE DEVICE devname /SPEED=1000 /FULL /AUTONEGOTIATE
3. To make any configuration values permanent, enter the values in the LANCP permanent device
database.
