1 HP-UX Installation
These instructions apply to A9782A and A9784A PCI-X combination cards on HP-UX 11i v1 and 11i v2. The
following installation steps are detailed in this section:
“Step 1: Access the system card bay”
“Step 2: Install the card”
“Step 3: Connect the card to the network”
“Step 4: Connect the fibre channel devices”
“Step 5: Prepare to install the software”
“Step 6: Install the latest software.”
“Step 7: Configure the card using SAM”
“Step 8: Verify the fibre channel installation”
“Step 9: Verify the LAN installation”
“Optional Step: Configure Jumbo Frames Size”
“Network Card Configuration Worksheet”
The Base-T cards (A9784A) operate at 10 or 100 Mbit/s in either full- or half-duplex modes and at 1000 Mbit/s
only in full-duplex mode. The 1000Base-SX cards (A9782A) operate only at 1000 Mbit/s and in full-duplex
mode. Ensure that you set both your switch and gigabit Ethernet card to autonegotiation or set both to the
same speed and duplex mode. You can find the LAN and fibre channel drivers on the December 2003 (or later)
OE or application software disk. Note: you will not need to perform the following hardware and software
installation steps if your combination card was factory installed (ordered on product option 0D1) or its LAN
port is the “built-in” or “core” LAN.)
NOTE The Fibre Channel component of the HP A9782A, A9784A Fibre Channel-Ethernet
combination card uses the same fcd driver (FibrChanl-01) as the HP A6826A Fibre Channel
adapter. See the HP Fibre Channel Mass Storage Adapters Support Guide for details on the
Fibre Channel component of these combination cards.
The Ethernet component of the HP AB465A Fibre Channel-Ethernet combination card uses the
same igelan driver (GigEther-01) as the HP AB465A combination card and the A6825A and
A6847A Ethernet cards. See the Ethernet Support Guide for details on the Ethernet component
of these combination cards.
All product documentation, including Ethernet and Fibre Channel Support Guides, the most
recent edition of this Installation Guide, Release Notes, and Support Matrixes containing
current information on supported servers, HP-UX versions, drivers, system firmware
requirements, and adapter firmware requirements, is available online at: http://docs.hp.com
under “Networking and Communications” and then under the “Combination Cards” product
category.
Thank you for purchasing HP I/O Cards
If you are installing an HP I/O card as an add-in device, please review this document before installation.
If an HP I/O card was factory installed in your server, you can skip to Step 8: Verify the fibre channel
installation to verify the installation.
