Installing the Host Bus Adapter

Step 1. Access the system card bay

• If the system is running, enter this command to shut it down:

# shutdown -h

Enter y when prompted to continue.

• Wait for the system to shut down completely, and then power off the system by pressing the

system off button.

• Ensure that the system is grounded.

• Open the system to gain access to the PCI backplane.

• Insert the card into the highest-performance PCIe slot available.

NOTE With HP-UX 11i v2, be sure to check that you are installing the card in a

non-switched slot. If you install the card in a switched slot, you will see the following

error message:

fcd [hardware path]: HBA installed on unsupported slot

If you see this message, you must shut down the system, remove the card, and

re-install it in a non-switched PCIe slot. Refer to the server documentation for

instructions on how to identify a non-switched PCIe slot.

Step 2. Install the card

• Slide the adapter edge-connector into the PCIe slot until it is fully seated.

• Secure the card and reassemble the system.
