Usage guidelines
A VPNv4 address comprises an RD and an IPv4 prefix. VPNv4 routes comprise VPNv4 addresses.
For a PE to exchange BGP VPNv4 routes with a BGP peer, you must enable that peer by executing the
peer enable command in BGP VPNv4 address family view or BGP-VPN VPNv4 address family view.
In BGP VPNv4 address family view, you can configure BGP VPNv4 route attributes, such as the preferred
value, and whether to allow the local AS number to appear in the AS_PATH attribute of received route
updates.
The settings in BGP VPNv4 address family view control VPNv4 route exchange between PEs.
The settings in BGP-VPN VPNv4 address family view control VPNv4 route exchange between provider PE
and provider CE in nested MPLS L3VPN.
