CHAPTER 14
High Availability
The HP GbE2c Ethernet Blade Switch (GbE2c) support high-availability network topologies. This
release provides information about Layer 2 Failover (formerly called Uplink Failure Detection) and
Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP).
The following topics are discussed in this chapter:
“Layer 2 Failover” on page 228. This section discusses trunk failover without using VRRP.
“VRRP Overview” on page 239. This section discusses VRRP operation and BLADE OS
redundancy configurations.
“Failover Methods” on page 242. This section describes the various modes of high availability.
“BLADE OS Extensions to VRRP” on page 244. This section describes VRRP enhancements
implemented in BLADE OS.
“Virtual Router Deployment Considerations” on page 245. This section describes issues to
consider when deploying virtual routers.
“High Availability Configurations” on page 246. This section discusses the more useful and
easily deployed redundant configurations.
