6. To view the major and minor number assigned for a device file, run the following command at the HP-UX
prompt:
$ ll /dev/tty4a8
The following output is displayed:
crw--w--w- 1 bin bin 104 0x040700 Apr 5 03:22 /dev/tty4a8

connections.

Error Messages Causes Actions
NO DEVICES AVAILABLE The /usr/lib/uucp/devices
file is not setup correctly.
Edit /usr/lib/uucp/devices
to include an entry for the
/dev/culnpp file created earlier.
For example, add the following
entries in the /dev/culnpp:
ACU cul2p5 - 2400 hayes
Direct cul2p5 - 2400 direct
DEVICE LOCKED A lock file exists in the
/usr/spool/uucp directory.
If the modem is not in use, remove
the lock file and try again.
CAN’T ACCESS DEVICE The dial-out port cannot be
opened.
Check the /dev directory for the
port’s existence, ownership, and
permissions.
