ATM Configuration and Troubleshooting Guide
Configuring SVCs and PVCs
Creating a Back-to-Back Connection
Chapter 5 87
• An IP address must be defined with a subnet mask in the correct
format (for example, 255.255.255.252). For example, if you assign
one system a class C address, then you must assign the other system
a class C address.
Cabling
When cabling a back-to-back connection take special care to ensure that
the receive (Rx) socket in the first system is connected to the transmit
(Tx) socket in the second system, and vice versa.
Using an HP EISA ATM Adapter
The HP EISA ATM adapter cannot emulate the network part of the UNI
3.0, 3.1, and 4.0 specifications. So, the same restrictions apply as
described above.
With Non-HP Systems
A back-to-back configuration can work only with a non-HP system that
has the following capabilities:
• Supports PVC configuration.
• Can automatically disable address registration on both systems.
• Does not attempt to retrieve the ATM address network prefix.
• Does not attempt to establish SVC connections.
• Supports RFC 1483 with LLC type 1 encapsulation.
• Supports the AAL5 AAL layer.
