ATM Configuration and Troubleshooting Guide

Configuring EMS High Availability over ATM
EMS High Availability Overview

EMS High Availability Overview
EMS HA-ATM is a version of High Availability that is fully integrated
with EMS. It consists of local recovery with EMS and remote recovery
with MC/ServiceGuard and EMS, and its monitoring daemon is named
hatmmon.
NOTE EMS HA-ATM feature is now supported on HP-UX workstations (7xx
series) and servers.
EMS HA-ATM provides redundancy within an ATM network, allowing
client applications to continue operating if a single failure occurs in the
network.
EMS HA-ATM does these tasks:
Detects local ATM ELAN interface failure.
Performs local failure recovery for an ATM resource, by transferring
from a failed ELAN interface to another local ELAN interface that is
available.
Logs events, particularly when a local resource’s status changes (for
example, an ATM link and ELAN failure) or when a notification is
sent to MC/ServiceGuard.
Provides MC/ServiceGuard with monitoring information when
requested.
Notifies MC/ServiceGuard when a local failure recovery is not
possible.
High Availability is provided by three functions:
The core ATM software manages recovery from LAN Emulation
Services failure by transferring to backup LAN Emulation Services.
EMS HA-ATM manages the local recovery and transfer of access to
client applications from one ELAN interface to another within the
same system if a failure occurs. Recovery is provided for ATM
adapter, link, or switch failure.
