ATM Configuration and Troubleshooting Guide
Configuring EMS High Availability over ATM
EMS High Availability Overview
Chapter 692
• EMS HA-ATM in conjunction with HP MC/ServiceGuard
manages the remote recovery and transfer of client applications from
one system to another if local recovery is not possible or not
configured. Recovery is provided for system failure, failure of all
adapters in a system, and failure of all the ATM switches or cables
connected to the adapters in the primary system.
The Event Monitoring Service (EMS) is involved in both local and remote
recovery. The EMS HA-ATM resource monitor (hatmmon) manages the
local recovery described above. If local recovery is not possible for some
reason, hatmmon notifies EMS. EMS then notifies MC/ServiceGuard, and
MC/ServiceGuard begins the remote recovery described above. EMS
must be installed on each system you want to be monitored by EMS
HA-ATM. Note that if the Event Monitoring Service (EMS) is not
already installed on a system, it is automatically installed when you
install the ATM software.
For an optimum High Availability solution, Hewlett-Packard
recommends that you configure remote recovery in conjunction with
local recovery.
NOTE EMS High Availability over ATM is available for LAN Emulation only; it
is not available for Classical IP (CIP).
