Both ATM adapters must be enabled in SAM. The ELAN interfaces are
monitored by the EMS monitor daemon hatmmon. Figure 6-4below shows
a configuration with a primary adapter (atm0) and a secondary adapter
(atm1). Note that this example uses HP-UX 10.20 naming conventions.

What Happens in Case of Failure In the configuration in Figure 6-4
above, the secondary ATM adapter (atm1)is in stand-by mode waiting for
failure detection, ready to take over from the primary adapter (atm0) if
needed. If the primary ATM adapter fails, the monitor daemons—one per
primary ELAN interface—detect this, and all IP addresses for the
primary ELAN interfaces on that adapter are transferred over to the
