ATM Configuration and Troubleshooting Guide
Configuring EMS High Availability over ATM
Configuring EMS HA-ATM for Local Recovery
Chapter 6 119
Step 1. Log in as root.
Step 2. Type sam to start SAM.
Step 3. Select “Networking and Communications”.
Step 4. Select “Network Interface Cards”.
Step 5. Highlight the primary ATM adapter that has the ELAN interface you
want to configure EMS HA-ATM for, and then choose Configure from
the “Actions” menu.
This opens the “Configure ATM Card” window, which lists all configured
interfaces for the ATM adapter.
Step 6. Highlight the ELAN interface you want to configure EMS HA-ATM for,
and select Configure HA over ATM from the “Actions” menu.
This opens the “High Availability over ATM” window. This window
shows the primary ELAN interface name, the IP address used by the
interface, and whether any secondary interfaces are available to be
configured (the “Available Secondary Interface Names” list).
Step 7. For each secondary ELAN interface you want to assign to the primary
ELAN interface, highlight the interface and select the Add button. This
moves it into the list of “Configured Secondary Interface Names.”
For example, if you are configuring primary ELAN interface ela0, and
two secondary ATM adapters are installed in the system, two secondary
ELAN interfaces—elb0 and elc0—appear in the “Available” list (one
interface for each secondary adapter). An adapter is considered
“available” if it is enabled (ATM card parameters configured) and not
already configured with primary ELAN interfaces.
NOTE The order in which you assign the secondary ELAN interfaces is the
order in which recovery is tried. As an example, three secondary ATM
adapters are installed in the system, and for primary ELAN interface
ela0 you assigned three secondary ELAN interfaces: eld0, elb0, and
elc0 (in that order). Then, if ela0 fails, recovery is tried to eld0 first,
then elb0, and finally elc0 (if necessary). This example is shown in
Figure 6-7 on page 117 earlier in this chapter.
Step 8. Select the OK button when you are finished.
