Troubleshooting the ATM Adapter and Software Installation

If the LED display does not indicate a successful installation, ensure
that the ATM adapters are connected to the correct type of switch port
with the correct type of cable (MMF or SMF or UTP Cat 5) and interface
(155 Mbits/s or 622 Mbits/s).
F Turn the connector. Check the cable to make sure that the connector
is connected transmit-receive and not receive-receive (with the connector
installed the wrong way).
G Replace cable with loopback hood. Disconnect the cable and fit the
loopback hood (ensure that the loopback hood is operating correctly
before you fit it). You can assume that the installation is correct and that
the problem lies with the cable or the switch if one of these is true (note
that discontinued adapters are not shown):
• J2469A, J2499A, J3420B, and J3573A: Both the Rx and Tx LEDs
are off.
• A5483A, A5513A, and A5515A: Both the R and T LEDs are off.
H Check the switch. You suspect a problem with the cable or the switch.
Ensure that the cable is connected to both the ATM adapter and the
switch, and that you are using the correct type of cable. If the cable is
faulty, replace it. If the problem persists, use the troubleshooting
information provided with the switch to locate and solve the problem
I Use atmloop (optional). Use atmloop to run an external loopback.
Before you use atmloop, you must use atmstop to stop the ATM adapter
and fit a loopback hood. See the atmloop(1)man page for more
information about using the command.
If atmloop is successful, you can assume that the adapter hardware is
OK. If atmloop is not successful, see “Contacting Your HP
Representative” on page 281 for the information you need to provide
when calling HP. Also see Chapter 11, “Replacing a Defective Adapter,”
on page 305 for information about changing defective adapters.
To restart the ATM interface after using atmloop, you must use atminit
to start the ATM interface (if an adapter is not already stopped, atminit
automatically stops it).
