ATM Configuration and Troubleshooting Guide

Logging and Tracing ATM Activity
Logging
Chapter 10290
Logging
The following sections describe how to do the following things:
Start logging.
Specify the type of information you want to log.
Stop logging.
The ATM software logs messages that record unusual or exceptional
events such as errors, warnings, and driver state transitions. It also
captures ATM network activities such as connection establishment, and
ILMI events. In NetTL, logging information is categorized as follows:
Disaster Critical error messages. For example, the driver detects
an error on an ATM adapter, fails to obtain memory for
normal operation, or detects an internal fatal error.
Error Error condition messages. For example, the driver
receives an unrecognized type of packet, or detects any
exceptional conditions.
Informative Normal messages. For example, messages that record
connection or disconnection events and signalling
events.
Warning Messages that say that something abnormal occurred,
but which should not cause problems.
Starting Logging
Logging is normally started automatically when the system boots. Use
the command nettl -start to manually start logging (disaster and
error messages are logged by default).
The log data is stored in the default log files that are opened when the
nettl daemon is started. The default log files can be located at:
/usr/adm/nettl.LOG00 and /usr/adm/nettl.LOG01 on HP-UX
10.20 and HP-UX 11.0
/usr/adm/nettl.LOG000 and /usr/adm/nettl.LOG001 on HP-UX
11i v1 or later
