Replacing an ATM ARP Server Adapter
If you need to replace a defective ATM adapter, and the adapter is
configured as an ATM ARP Server, you might want the replacement
adapter to use the same MAC address as the defective adapter. This will
avoid your having to reconfigure the ATM ARP Server ATM address on
every ATM ARP Client on the same subnet. The hard-coded MAC
address provides the End System Identifier (ESI) part of the adapter’s
ATM address. To reconfigure the ATM adapter’s hardware MAC
address, see “Changing an Adapter’s MAC Address” on page 310.
CAUTION Do not change the End System Identifier of the ATM adapter for any
other reason. If you are unsure about whether you should change the
End System Identifier, contact your Hewlett-Packard representative.
