Configuring the ATM Card Parameters
The following steps describe how to configure the ATM card adapters.
Step 1. Log in as root.
Step 2. Type sam to start up the System Administration Manager (SAM) utility.
Step 3. Select the “Networking and Communications” icon (double-click the icon,
or choose Open from the “Actions” menu) in the SAM main window.
Step 4. Select the “Network Interface Cards” icon (double-click the icon, or
choose Open from the “Actions” menu) from the “Networking and
Communications” window. This displays a list of the adapters currently
installed in the system.
NOTE If you have only one ATM adapter in your system, it is named atm0.
Other ATM adapters in the system are numbered—for example, atm1 or
atm2—but might not be numbered sequentially.
The list of network interface cards that are installed in the system
appears. If you have not configured the adapter yet, its status is shown
as Not configured. After it is configured, its status can be either
Enabled or Disabled. A newly installed ATM adapter is shown as Not
configured.
Step 5. Select the newly installed ATM adapter(double-click the adapter’s name,
or choose Configure from the “Actions” menu).
The “Configure ATM Card Parameters” window appears for first-time
configuration.
Step 6. Set the Physical Layer of the adapter to match the ATM network
(SONET or SDH).
Step 7. Set the Network Prefix option to one of the following values:
• From Network if the ATM switch complies with UNI 3.0, 3.1, or 4.0
(and so it supports ILMI). When Network Prefix is set to From
Network, the Network Prefix part of the ATM address is
automatically displayed if ILMI is working.
