ATM Configuration and Troubleshooting Guide
Installing and Configuring the ATM Software
Configuring the ATM Card Parameters

• LAN Emulation (see Chapter 4, “Configuring LAN Emulation
Interfaces,” on page 37).
Once you have configured the ATM adapter and configured at least one
network interface (Classical IP or LAN Emulation), the ATM adapter is
ready to transmit and receive data using Switched Virtual Connections
(SVCs).
Until otherwise configured, the ATMadapter initially uses a default SVC
traffic profile using Unspecified Bit Rate (UBR) with a Peak Rate of
either 155 Mbits/s or 622 Mbits/s depending on your ATM adapter. This
default SVC configuration is used for SVCs opened towards unspecified
destinations. You can modify this default SVC traffic profile as required,
and also create custom SVC traffic profiles, which are used for SVCs
toward specific destinations. For more details about SVCs, see Chapter 5,
“Configuring SVCs and PVCs,” on page 61.
If you wish to configure PVCs, then you must configure a Classical IP
interface, because PVCs are supported only on Classical IP over ATM
(see Chapter 3, “Configuring a Classical IP over ATM Interface over an
ATM Interface,” on page 23). For details about configuring PVCs, see
Chapter 5, “Configuring SVCs and PVCs,” on page 61.
NOTE If you change the ATM adapter configuration in your system by adding,
removing, or moving an ATM adapter within the same system, the
correspondence between the hardware paths and the
card_instance_number
s of those adapters might change. So, you must
reconfigure the IP interface for any adapters whose configuration has
changed. Patch PHCO_17633 is available to solve this problem. Contact
your HP representative for installation details.
