Configuring SVCs and PVCs
Configuring SVC Traffic Parameters
Chapter 568
Configuring SVC Traffic Parameters
NOTE You can configure SVC traffic profiles for both Classical IP and ELAN
interfaces.
SVCs are established and cleared transparently and automatically. The
ATM adapter is operational for SVCs immediately after you have
performed the initial configuration described in “Configuring the ATM
Card Parameters” on page 20 and configured at least a Classical IP or
ELAN interface for the adapter. For example, entering the telnet
command with a destination IP address opens an ATM SVC of
Unspecified Bit Rate (UBR) traffic type. The default Peak Rate is
155 Mbits/s or 622 Mbits/s depending on the type of ATM adapter you
have installed.
NOTE The VC for a destination must be either a PVC or SVC. A destination
cannot accept both types at the same time. So, if a PVC is already set up
to a destination, no SVCs are accepted to that destination.
Types of SVC Traffic Profiles
For each network interface (Classical IP and ELAN) on an ATM adapter,
you can configure SVC traffic parameters for one of the following types of
SVC:
Any” destination: A general, default SVC traffic profile that is
used for SVCs that are opened to any destination where no specific
SVC traffic parameters are configured. This SVC traffic profile is
shown as “Any” in the list of defined SVC traffic profiles and is
always present. The preset default for the Any” SVC traffic profile is
Unspecified Bit Rate (UBR) traffic type. The default Peak Rate,
which you can modify as required, is 155 Mbits/s or 622 Mbits/s,
depending on the type of ATM adapter you have installed.
