ATM Configuration and Troubleshooting Guide
Configuring SVCs and PVCs
Configuring SVC Traffic Parameters
Chapter 5 69
• Specific destination: One or more different SVC traffic profiles for
use with SVCs opened towards specific destinations. Whenever an
SVC is set up to a particular destination, the predefined SVC traffic
profile for that destination is used. If the source and destination end
systems have different performance criteria or traffic requirements,
it is often necessary to manually customize the connection to ensure
operation.
NOTE When configuring an SVC traffic profile for a specific destination, do
not enter the same SVC traffic parameters as the ones that are used
for the “Any” SVC traffic profile configuration. Although this is
possible, it does not make practical sense because the “Any” SVC
traffic profile could be used, saving resources.
Configuring SVCs for Different Types of HP ATM
Adapters
Although the ATM software automatically opens and closes SVCs as
necessary, to optimize traffic conditions Hewlett-Packard recommends
that you always explicitly configure SVCs in the following cases:
• SVCs from a 622 Mbit/s adapter towards 155 Mbit/s adapters:
You must configure each SVC on the 622 Mbit/s adapter towards a
155 Mbit/s adapter with a peak cell rate (PR) less than 155 Mbits/s.
• SVCs towards adapters of a different type: Ensure that you
configure a traffic profile type that is also supported on the
destination ATM adapter.
You can encounter severe performance problems, or not be able to
communicate with the destination at all, if the destination system
does not support the traffic profile type you configure. Table 5-4
below lists the SVC traffic profiles supported for each type of HP
ATM adapter (discontinued adapters are not shown).
