AD278A/AD279A PCI MUX Adapters
AD278A/AD279A PCI MUX adapters are supported only on the PCI slots. Table 1-5 lists the types of MUX
adapters.
Every AD278A/AD279A PCI MUX adapter card has processors that control the flow of data through multiple
communication ports.
AD278A PCI MUX 8-Port Adapter
The AD278A PCI MUX 8-port adapter can control the operations of up to eight high speed serial ports. It
works on both 3.3 V and 5 V systems. For more information, see “Card Specifications” on page 37. The
AD278A PCI MUX 8-port adapter supports a fan out cable as an interface.
Figure 1-1 shows AD278A PCI MUX 8-port adapter.

AD279A PCI MUX 64-Port Adapter
The AD279A PCI MUX 64-port adapter can control the operations of up to 64 high speed serial ports. It works
on both 3.3 V and 5 V systems. For more information, see “Card Specifications” on page 37. The AD279A PCI
MUX 64-port adapter supports 16 to 64 ports by using up to four external port modules, to be ordered
separately.
