WARNING Electric shock hazard. Switch off the system, disconnect the power cable and all
telecommunications network cables before opening the system or accessing the
slots.
Cleaning precautions
Hewlett-Packard strongly recommends that you keep the fiber optic cable plugs
clean by always covering the ends of the cable with the protective dust caps when
the cables are not connected to the ATM adapter. You must also cover the fiber optic
sockets on the ATM adapter with their protective dust caps. Special cleaning kits for
cleaning the cables and sockets are commercially available.
Installing the ATM adapter
The drawings show an installation on the HP-HSC expansion I/O board of a K-Class
system. Note that only some K-Class systems can be fitted with an HP-HSC
expansion I/O board. The same instructions are valid for installation on the core I/O
board of a K-Class system.
1 Log on as root and shutdown the system
/etc/shutdown -h
2 Disconnect the power cable and all telecommunications network cables.
3 Choose which slot you are going to use for the ATM adapter.
4 Remove the protective dust cap on the sockets of the ATM adapter.
Note For optimum ATM performance on a K400 system, you MUST use one of the four
HSC slots on the HP-HSC expansion I/O board.
Caution Wear the ESD wrist strap provided when handling the ATM adapter. Observe all
normal anti-static precautions. See the documentation supplied with the system for
more information.
5 On some Class K systems there are retaining hooks at the top and bottom of the
host card. If necessary release these hooks.
