About This Manual
This manual describes how to install, configure, administer, and troubleshoot Gigabit
Ethernet Network Interface Cards (NICs) for HP-UX 11i v1 and v2.
The manual’s printing date and part number indicate the current edition. The printing
date will change when a new edition is printed. Minor changes may be made at reprint
without changing the printing date. The manual’s part number will change when
extensive changes are made.
Manual updates may be issued between editions to correct errors or document product

Intended Audience
The information in this manual is intended for network managers who administer
Ethernet networks. It is assumed that the reader is experienced with the basics of local
and wide area networking and has a knowledge of HP-UX operating system concepts,
commands, and configuration.
Changed Product Features for May 2005
The May 2005 release of HP-UX 11i v1 and v2 modifies the following Ethernet-based
products:
• The IEther-00 driver software bundle (iether driver) and the GigEther-01 driver
software bundle (igelan driver) are updated to provide:
— The ability to turn On or Off the send and receive sides of the Gigabit Ethernet
network interface card’s Checksum Offload (CKO) . See details in Chapter 1 of
this document.
— Support 1000FD mode of switches. Gigabit Ethernet cards in autonegotiation
mode will now support 1000FD manual/fixed mode on the link partner (such as a
switch). See details in Chapter 1 of this document.
Changed Product Features for September 2004
The September 2004 release of HP-UX 11i v2 modifies the following Ethernet-based
products:
• The IEther-00 driver software bundle (iether driver) and the GigEther-01 driver
software bundle (igelan driver) are updated to provide:
— TCP Segmentation Offload (TSO). See details in Chapter 1 of this document.
— 64-bit management information base (MIB) statistics. Directs the data link
service (DLS) provider to return 64 bit statistics.
— Virtual LANs (VLANs). This feature was on HP-UX 11i v1 since June 2004 but
was not on the HP-UX 11i v2 release of March 2004. This feature is described in
Using HP-UX VLANs on http://docs.hp.com.
