that match the service instance are forwarded by the VPLS instance bound with the service instance.
A service instance supports multiple types of packet matching rules (such as matching all packets
received on the port, packets carrying the specified VLAN tags, all tagged packets, and all packets
with no VLAN tags), providing a more flexible VPLS instance access control.
Binding a Layer 3 interface with a VPLS instance
Note the following guidelines when you bind a Layer 3 with a VPLS instance:
The router does not support binding a VPLS instance to a VLAN interface.
A P2P enabled VPLS instance cannot be bound with a Layer 3 interface.
Binding a VPLS instance on a Layer 3 interface disables IP related functions on the sub-interfaces of
the Layer 3 interface. For example, the sub-interfaces cannot receive ARP or IGMP packets. They
cannot forward unicast or multicast packets. After you remove the VPLS instance binding, the IP
related functions on the sub-interfaces recover.
To bind a Layer 3 interface with a VPLS instance:

By default, a Layer 3 interface is
not bound with any VPLS instance.
Binding a service instance with a VPLS instance
To bind a service instance with a VPLS instance, create the service instance on a Layer 2 Ethernet
interface, configure a packet matching rule for the service instance, and then bind the service instance
with the VPLS instance. After these configurations, packets that arrive at the Layer 2 Ethernet interface
and match the packet matching rule are forwarded through the bound VPLS instance.
Note the following guidelines when you bind a service instance with a VPLS instance:
This feature is available only for routers with SAP-4EXP.
A P2P enabled VPLS instance cannot be bound with a service instance.
To ensure normal forwarding of VPN traffic, the Layer 2 Ethernet interface must allow the VLANs
that might appear in the VPN traffic. For information about VLAN configurations, see Layer 2LAN
Switching Configuration Guide.
