• VLAN mode—The Ethernet packets sent from a CE to a PE carry a VLAN tag. The PE treats the
VLAN tag as a P-Tag, which is a service delimiter that the service provider adds to the packets to
identify the user. The PE also adds a P-tag into the packets to be sent to the CE.
• Ethernet mode—If the Ethernet packets sent from a CE to a PE contain a VLAN tag, the PE treats the
VLAN tag as a U-Tag, which is the VLAN tag of the user network. When the PE sends packets to the
CE, it does not add a P-tag into the packets.
The MTU specified by this command is advertised through LDP and used for PW negotiation.
This command is available for service instances with the ID in the range of 1 to 4094.

# For service instance 100, create a Martini VC and specify the matching external VLAN tag as 100.

Usage guidelines
This command applies only to VCs created by using the xconnect peer command in service instance
view.
You can use this command to manage traffic on the network.
After you execute this command, if the VC has an available primary or backup VC, the device switches
traffic from the VC to the primary or backup VC. Otherwise, the device does not switch traffic.
Example
# Assume that a primary VC and a backup VC are established for service instance 10. Switch traffic from
the currently active VC to the standby VC.
