This method is disruptive. You must reboot the device to
complete the upgrade.
Installing hotfixes System software image
Hotfixes (called "patches" in this document) repair
software defects without requiring a reboot or service
disruption.
Hotfixes do not add new features to system software
images.
Upgrading from the

System software image
Use this method when the device cannot start up correctly.
For information about this upgrading method, see the
release notes for your device.
Upgrading the system software (for standalone
mode)
To upgrade the system software image, perform the following tasks in user view:
Step Command Remarks
1. Use FTP, TFTP, or any other
method to transfer the system
software image to the root
directory of a storage medium
on the active MPU.
See "Configuring FTP" or
"Configuring TFTP."
The image file must be saved in the
storage medium's root directory for
a successful upgrade.
2. Copy the system software
image to the root directory of
a storage medium on the
standby MPU.

You can assign different names to
the image files for the active MPU
and the standby MPU, but you must
make sure the image versions are
the same.
3. Specify the file as a startup
system software image on
each MPU in user view.
boot-loader file file-url slot
slot-number { main | backup }
In FIPS mode, the specified file
must pass authenticity verification
before it can be set as a startup
system software image.
4. Reboot the router.
