R3303-HP HSR6800 Routers Fundamentals Configuration Guide

Logging in through SNMP
You can run SNMP on an NMS to access the router MIB and perform GET and SET operations to
manage and monitor the router. The router supports SNMPv1, SNMPv2c, and SNMPv3, and can work
with various network management software products, including IMC. For more information about SNMP,
see Network Management and Monitoring Configuration Guide.
By default, SNMP access is disabled. To enable SNMP access, log in to the router through any other
method.
FIPS compliance
The router supports the FIPS mode that complies with NIST FIPS 140-2 requirements. Support for features,
commands, and parameters might differ in FIPS mode and non-FIPS mode. For more information about
FIPS mode, see Security Configuration Guide.
SNMP login is not supported in FIPS mode.
Configuring SNMP login
Connect the PC (the NMS) and the router to the network, making sure they can reach each other, as
shown in Figure 36. T
his document describes only the basic SNMP configuration procedures on the
router.

IMPORTANT:
To make SNMP operate correctly, make sure the SNMP settin

are consistent with those on the device.
Prerequisites
Assign an IP address to a Layer 3 interface on the device.
