APM communication management
APM monitors applications using different protocols and technologies. It predefines one or multiple of the
following methods for each type of application monitors:
SNMP—Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is supported broadly by operating systems
and network devices. APM collects host monitor index information through the SNMP Agent which
is deployed in the host. The default SNMP Agent listening port is UDP 161. The default listening port
cannot be modified.
CLI—Command-Line Interface (CLI) allows you to interact with APM using Telnet or SSH to collect
target monitor indexes using command lines. To Telnet, the default listening port is TCP 23, and to
SSH, it is TCP 22. Basically, CLI is used to monitor the UNIX and Linux system.
WMI—Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) is a core management technology that
permits APM to collect monitor indexes from applications such as a Windows operating system,
IIS, .NET server, and AD directory. The default listening port is TCP 135.
JMX—Java Management Extensions (JMX) provides a platform for managing applications, devices
and systems. APM collects Tomcat and JBoss monitor index information using JMX. The default
listening port is TCP 1009.
Other—APM can collect the database monitor indexes by applications service interfaces. APM is
able to connect to databases and execute SQL statements to query monitor indexes from databases
through their service ports.
APM monitor features
APM provides operators with the following functions to monitor the applications:
Application monitor management—Manages all monitored applications.
Topology and application group management—Displays dependencies between monitored
applications in various topologies and manages the monitored applications in application groups.
Configuration management—Allows operators to configure parameters for application monitoring.
Widget management—Allows operators to add APM widgets to the IMC homepage and to
configure widget settings.
Application monitor management
One of the functions that APM uses to monitor applications is through the application monitor
management function. Once collected, the information can be displayed in different views based on
your needs.
