2 Quick start
This section describes how to monitor applications and view the monitoring report. It is designed for
administrators using the APM service component for the first time, or for those planning to add
application monitors in batches.
Prerequisites
Before you monitor an application in APM, complete the following tasks:
1. Obtain general information related to the target application. General information includes:
Application type
Host IP address of the application
Dependencies with other applications
Telephone number, email, and other contact information for the administrators who manage the
application
2. Add the host on which the target application resides to the IMC Platform. For more information,
see HP IMC Base Platform Administrator Guide.
3. Complete necessary configuration if the target application is of any of the following types:
JBoss Server
Apache Server
Tomcat Server
Oracle Application Server
WebLogic
SAP
For more information, see "11 Application server monitor" and "12 Web server monitor."
Adding an application monitor through Auto
Discovery
Using Auto Discovery, APM automatically detects applications running on the target hosts through the
default ports, and displays the detected application list for operators to select for monitoring. For
information about configuring the default ports, see "5 Configuration management."
To add an application monitor:
1. Click the Resource tab.
2. Select Application Manager > Auto Discovery from the navigation tree.
The Application Discovery page appears.
3. Click Add. The Select Devices dialog box appears.
4. Filter target hosts by view or advanced query.
