Figure 3 Application monitor and views
As shown in Figure 3, APM supports the following views:
Application monitorProvides several different templates which are composed of a set of
corresponding parameters and configurations. Using these specific templates, APM collects and
analyzes monitor data based on host monitor, class monitor, and custom view.
Host monitorAnalyzes and assesses the availability and health status of the host on which the
applications run. APM provides host overview and a host monitor list.
Class monitorDisplays the health status for each application type which is predefined in APM. An
application class includes one or more application types. For more information, see Table 1.
Custom viewAllows you to add several different applications of the monitor index into one view.
This is convenient when you are analyzing service performance.
For more information, see "3 Monitor management."
Topology and application group management
With topology and application group management, operators can view dependencies among
applications and configure management privileges for application monitors.
APM displays all application monitors and their dependencies in a topology. Dependencies show how
an application is related with other applications. Typically, directly related applications are used
together to provides a single service. For example, a website service can use the following applications:
Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP. These applications are related with each other and any failure among
them can affect the service operation. From the application dependencies, operators can promptly locate
problems and evaluate affected areas to save problem solving time.
APM allows applications monitors to be organized into several groups according to the different
authorities of operators. Application monitors and their monitor reports in the same group can be
managed only by the operators who have management rights to that group. The operators can be IMC
administrators, maintainers, or viewers.
For more information, see "4 Topology and application group management.
Configuration management
The APM configuration management functions allow you to manage the activated alarm conditions,
ports, probes, and system parameters.
Threshold ManagementAllows you to configure index value thresholds that, once reached,
trigger a related alarm in the Alarm module of the IMC Platform.
